Fun with barcodes

Barcodes have been an irritation to cover designers ever since their introduction to magazines in the eighties. But the re-launched UK Esquire has been having fun with theirs. Here are the first three, relating to Michelle Pfeiffer, James McAvoy and footballer Kaka. (If you want to know more about barcodes there’s more information then you’ll ever need on Wikipedia).

Not quite as playful/illustrative but making good use of the barcode within the cover concept, Timeouts summer nights cover seems like a nice solution. Was published a while ago now.

I don’t know if they hired this company or not, but there’s some rather fun ones here. Love the pizza.
