Creative Review redesign

creative review spread

The redesigned Creative Review is revealed this week with the publication of their March issue. Recently recruited art director Paul Pensom has done away with the magazine’s carefully neutral design and introduced more character to the pages by making use of the many variants of Christian Schwartz’s slab serif Farnham typeface. There are also some major editorial and structural changes that will need to be evaluated when the issue itself is available, but meanwhile here are a couple of example spreads that look good to me. More when I see the issue.

Looks slightly dangerous. The beauty of CR was that the design was inert so the work spoke louder.the heavy rule work on the quotes is quite reminisent of the Guardian’s G2 section.
Doesn’t look terrible though.the headline box thing may get a bit boring after a while
