French men’s magazines
Here are a couple of front covers I picked up in France over the weekend; the launch issue of the local edition of GQ carries a single slogan on black (there’s a more regular photographic cover behind it). Interesting that this major launch relies on a big bold slogan to stand out on the very crowded French newsstand. It worked.
‘The magazine which speaks to men in a different tone’ is a rough translation, something which another French title, Guts, ignores. There’s a very familiar tone to that name and typography… Nuts anyone?

Ha – do you think they’re aiming for the same market?
Spanish Esquire is lovely – heavily influenced by George Lois era US Esquire, but there’ snothing wrong in that.

Yeah, I picked up one of those spanish Esquires two weeks ago and I loved it. I also like El Pais magazine which comes inside the newspaper on sundays.
