The Modern Magazine conference, 16 October

As promised here’s an initial line-up for The Modern Magazine conference along with ticket details.

The day will be a celebration of the best of current editorial creativity, and marks the publication of my new book ‘The Modern Magazine’. I’ve wanted to programme an event based on this blog for some time, and the book provides the ideal focus to do that. The speaker line-up includes several of those featured in the book alongside other key creative figures in the publishing industry today.

It takes place in the beautiful new Platform Theatre at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in Kings Cross, a purpose-built venue with tiered seating and state-of-the-art audio and projection facilities. We’ll start at 930am and end around 530pm, with drinks afterwards in one of the School’s graphic design studios (courtesy of CSM and Monocle).

We’re still developing the final line-up but the following are already confirmed:

Tyler Brûlé Editor-in-chief and Chairman, Monocle (London)
Joerg Koch, Editor and Creative director, 032c (Berlin)
Omar Sosa Co-founder and Art director, Apartamento (Barcelona)
Richard Turley Creative director, Bloomberg Businessweek, (New York)
Patrick Waterhouse Editor-in-chief, Colors (Treviso)
Plus others tbc

There will also be panel discussions including one looking at women’s magazines and a series of presentations about smaller, independent titles. Watch out for further details over the coming weeks, along with fuller biogs of speakers.

We have 200 tickets available for this one-off event, with a limited number set aside at a reduced rate for students. It’ll be a must-see day for magazine designers, editors, design and journalism students and anyone interested in the best of today’s magazine publishing.

Tickets are now on sale via our online shop:
Day ticket £140
Student ticket £90

The Platform Theatre is ideally positioned in central London, close to Kings Cross and Euston mainline stations as well as the Eurostar service at St Pancras (map).

Hi Jeremy

I’d really like to come along to this, be useful but I’m not in London so the early start time makes it prohibitive with trains/childcare. I see there’s no streaming of the event but wondering if you’ll do a write up/series of blog posts on the day? I’m particularly interested in the women’s magazine sector for my current project.

Do you plan to run it again next year?
