Only two options?
I’m writing this in jetlag early-morning time so have no local angle to add yet, but the biggest magazine news in New York today must be the departure from Interview of Fabien Baron. Read the details here.
It was perhaps only a matter of time before this would happen. The clash between overseeing a time-hungry monthly monthly magazine and running his own design/branding business can’t have been easy to reconcile. Add in the financial crisis and the pressure that adds to both publishing and high-end branding businesses and his departure is perhaps no surprise.
What is more surprising is that already M/M Paris are being talked about as the replacement creative team for Baron. Baron and M/M have already played musical chairs at French Vogue. Are there no other options available?

One design hero already disappointed me… please don’t let these guys, my favorites, do the same.

I reckon Stephen Male should swap having to prop up poor old American Vogue for a stint at Interview. That would be rad. Or something more left of field like getting Experimental JetSet or Work in Progress to have a crack at it. They guys behind Index (now defunct) & Me magazine would add much needed ‘freshness’ to the mag…

I wasnt entirely convinced by M/M’s French Vogue. Will be interesting to see what they do if they get the gig.

Of course there are LOTS of options.
M/M Paris aren’t particularly a bad choice at this present time, but I would seriously question if they can really bring something to this title. I think They are best suited staying with Arena Homme + for a little while longer.

M/M are good designers but probably too quirky for Interview. I think the guys at Suburbia would be a great choice. They did a great job on Pop, redesigning it every issue. Mind you, they’re busy on ‘Love’
