New launch shock!

Amidst all the doom and gloom, Condé Nast continue to launch new titles. Here’s a preview of Katie Grand’s new Love magazine. Also coming soon, the UK edition of Wired (thanks Marissa).

I LOOK FOWARD TO IT.

im sure it’ll be great inside, but that logo.. its kinda like a grave stone inscription isnt it? maybe if/when its embossed it’ll feel better.. hope so…

Comment on February 6, 2009 by kohji says:

I liked it. It’s a kind of unsual that retro design. It’s all about recycling good concepts. Looking forward to see the inside pages.

Is she meant to look like a young Queen Elizabeth 2?

Comment on February 6, 2009 by jeremy says:

I hope so!

I think the logotype is very interesting. Too often magazines don’t pay attention to their masthead. I like this more traditional approach

This is a pretty great cover

Comment on February 7, 2009 by Captain Oates says:

Is this a bagged funeral supplement to Saga magazine? The logo?! The styling?! The last year’s model? Oh my. And they said print could never be over. Why the excitement here? IT’S A SHIT FASHION MAGAZINE. Vacuous, empty, sweatshopped embroidery exposed through a $20k a day photographer’s lense, un-needed, a ‘hip’ circulation of ohhhhhh, 2500 copies in London and 5450 more worldwide. It’s a trade magazine with less purpose than iD. This is soooooooo beyond CondiNasty’s remit it defies belief. And I’m sorry, no matter how great they once were, I do not need Katie and Lee and Stuart to curate my life any longer. I love you all, but move on already!

Oh, and by the way, Wired has been put back YET AGAIN and won’t be coming soon (ish).

Comment on February 7, 2009 by Captain Scott (Oates has stepped out) says:

Sorry – didnt mean to get so angry! but the prospect of another darn fashion magazine made me mad. I’m sure it’ll have some interesting stuff in though. Lee and Stuart really are (through gritted teeth) great with mags.

Comment on February 7, 2009 by simon taylor says:

the ironic beveled logo is a nice touch but i’m going to have to agree with the captain on this one, this new title seems completely absurd

if this isn’t a flaming beacon for conde nast’s inability to see a new direction in light of our – let’s say – worldly issues, i don’t know what is

fashion and fame?

whoopsie-daysie, mr. newhouse

Comment on February 8, 2009 by Mark says:

I think the coverlines font and general style is lovely, looks like 1940s Vogue. Be nice if they actually had the logo carved and shot (what credit crunch?!)

re: UK Wired – has it been put back? I know they’ve just finished the dummy issue which was never intended for newsstands..

Comment on February 8, 2009 by jeremy says:

This one page is very post-war Britain; the young Elizabeth, the fonts reminiscent of Festival of Britain. Austerity time – feels right for today in that respect.

Comment on February 8, 2009 by jeremy says:

re Wired, I believe the first issue has just been completed so should be with us soon.

Comment on February 8, 2009 by vishnu says:

predictable….never like Pop and Love is yet another…wait..Fashion & Fame?
Katie should just stick to styling

Comment on February 9, 2009 by bob says:

I think this might not be the cover though. I heard they shot Courtney Love which would make sense for name of the magazine. At least Katy etc try to do something different. Good luck to them.

Comment on February 10, 2009 by LondonLee says:

This looks to be another of those fashion glossies I see on the newsstand and think “ooh, nice cover!” but then pick it up and the insides are full of pointless arty fashion photos with ugly models and absolutely nothing to read.

But I could be wrong.

Comment on February 11, 2009 by Mr. McGinnis says:

If you’re not particularly interested in a subject, then you are not qualified to judge that subject…

Comment on February 12, 2009 by LondonLee says:

Oh rubbish. For a start I subscribe to W and used to get Harper’s Bazaar and Italian Vogue when Fabien Baron was art director so I am “interested” in the subject. But I’m more interested in good design and engaging content, whether it be a great fashion spread with beautiful typography or a long literary essay.
