Magazine-y
New magazines

File magazine

There never seems to be a shortage of goodies to feature here at magCulture. But every now and then something turns up that’s really special, and this is one of those times.

File is a new London-based magazine that combines print and DVD in a simple but beautiful large-format package.

The opening page explains the idea well – the black card cover opens like a file to reveal newsprint pages that feature simple spacious design.

It has an eclectic range of content, the magazine’s own description ‘Art and Visual Communication’ being open enough to include music, design and films. Not an original concept, but it hangs together well.

The written pieces link nicely, above, with the DVD comes that comes pocketed at the back of the issue, along with a glossy print by Geoff McFetridge, below.

The best thing about File, though, is it’s presentation. The heavy card cover, the light newsprint paper, the glossy print and the DVD make a compelling package. Magazine-y!

Ooooh that looks pretty.

Thing is, I can’t remember the last time I actually watched a DVD that came with a magazine – they always stay tucked in their little pocket and get forgotten about. Would much prefer a CD.

What’s the relationship to Specialten?
Is that dvd/mag still going or is this another project from the same team?

Fuck that shit. Didnt Blender start as a DVD contented magavideologazine? Some, like 13 yeARS AGO?

Captain Scott
Its not quite the same content clever boy and Blender can’t claim to be the only ones using DVD’s within a publication.
