Magazine of the week: Draft #6

It’s been a couple of years since issue 5, but here at last is issue 6 of Draft magazine.

The front cover features a watercolour by Jake and Dinos Chapman, printed on watercolour paper and glued to the high-gloss cover, above, with the logo blind embossed into the card. The issue takes a slightly different approach to previous issues. Instead of new commissions, all the content has been selected from the Archive of Modern Conflict, an obscure London-based archive of very varied material, as the magazine demonstrates.

Photographer Donovan Wylie offers a pair of images of a mural being destroyed during the destruction of the Maze prison in Northern Ireland, above.

Illustrator/designer Anthony Burrill picks a selection of posters from the May 1968 student uprisings in Paris.

Photographer Martin Parr chooses a series of catalogue images of1970s private aircraft.

Stephen Gill’s photographs of obliterated grafitti in east London are a haunting record of an overlooked modern curiosity.
This is only a small selection from the 110+ pages. It’s a fascinating act of visual curatorship by the editorial team, led by Paul Cohen, encompassing history, anthropology, design, technology to name just a few directions. Wonderful stuff.

[...] Now in it’s sixth issue (although issue five was released over two years ago), Draft focuses on new art commissions, showcasing artworks picked by photographers, artists and designers. The sixth issue curates artworks from the Archive of Modern Conflict and, if we say so ourselves, looks pretty damn good. (Magculture) [...]
