Letter to Jane: the future of iPad apps

The fourth issue of Tim Moore’s Letter to Jane iPad app was released late last year. Although some early development work was included in my book The Modern Magazine, I missed the chance to give it a more thorough review here on the blog at the time it appeared. This week Bob Newman posted a review on his Newmanology site – a review I wholeheartedly agreed with, for its positive response to this particular app as much as the general observations about magazine apps. At the Monocle Christmas Market

Our shop at the Monocle Christmas Market is open til 5pm today, selling the new Hole & Corner, latest Noble Rot as well as Colors, Alpine Review, FAT and others. You can also pick up signed copies of The Modern Magazine, The Big Book of Anorak and the last few Making Magazines 2012.

We’re also offering a magCultural bundle – a tote bag containing a signed copy of The Modern Magazine and copies of My Favo(u)rite Magazine and the new issue for Gym Class for a discounted £40.

Also on site: Santa, his reindeer and other stalls including Esk, Cos, Allpress, Monocle Shop, Honest Jons, Trunk and others.

magCulture at the Monocle Christmas Market

This weekend Monocle open up their offices for their annual Christmas Market. There’ll be plenty of present-buying opportunities, Allpress coffee and Santa on hand (complete with reindeer) plus the magCulture shop will be returning following the success of our pop-up shop at the Summer Fayre. We’ll have some our favourite recent magazines piled up and ready to go, along with signed copies of The Modern Magazine and a rare opportunity to pick up copies of My Favo(u)rite Magazine and Gym Class Magazine in the flesh.

The Market is open 11am–7pm on Saturday and Sunday at Midori House, 1 Dorset Street London W1U 4EG

At Work With: Bob Newman, Newmanology

Bob Newman is one of the key figures of contemporary US editorial design. Not only a prolific creative director  – Details, Fortune, Real Simple, Entertainment Weekly and New York are just a few of the magazines on his resumé – his generosity of spirit has been a huge influence on the industry, latterly via blogging and tweeting as Newmanology. Earlier this year he suffered a serious accident that left him unable to work, since when he has been going through the slow process of rehabilitation. Here he looks ahead at his week and shares his thoughts as his Newmanology presence re-emerges online.

It’s a few months since Andrew Losowsky and I launched My Favo(u)rite Magazine on behalf of Bob Newman and his family.
