The annual international edition of ZEITmagazin is always a great reminder of what we English-speakers miss in the weekly German edition: in short, great commissiong across wrod and image. Here’s a quick look at some visual highlights from this year’s issue.

 

Linseed Journal does everything right: it looks great, feels great, and continually surprises with its erudite and thoughtful content. It’s an example of the magazine as experience, using a single natural object—the humble apple—to explore art, history, science, design and horticulture.

All new trends surface in magazines at some point, and right now we’re seeing Artificial Intelligence pop up everywhere. Batshit Times succesfully uses AI technology to reflect and challenge the chaos of the modern world; curiously, in doing so it makes a strong argument for the role of the editor over the algorithm.

CSM graphics graduate Min Kim recently dropped off a sample copy of Playbot, part of her final year project. We were immediately drawn to its AI-driven content, and that punning title. At once serious and comedic, it’s a small but startling starter for the conversation about how humans and technology might coexist together in the future.

Middle Plane explores the relationship between art and fashion in a unique way, presenting images that reflect the life and work of a single artist. We asked the magazine’s India Birgitta Jarvis to talk us through five images from their latest David Hockney-inspired issue five.

The arrival of a new print issue of Vestoj, the ‘Journal of Sartorial Matters’, is always a joy, and this latest issue is no exception. Although always busy online, the print edition demonstrates how a well-designed, themed set of stories can deliver for the fashion-obsessed and fashion-wary alike.
