Edit (UK, Issue 1, Summer 2004)
*

Published by international picture agency Getty Images, Edit describes itself as 'A magazine by the people who create images, for the people who use them'. Naturally it is full of photographs (all available for licensing from Getty Images) and stories about photographers and their images. But surprisingly, perhaps, its front cover is image-free.

Clearly this paradoxical lack of cover image is designed to appeal to the designers and art directors at whom the title is aimed. But like the covers of Exit magazine and of early editions of 032c (see pages 52/55 of magCulture, the book), using a bright field of colour instead of an image to attract attention works well. In this first issue it also serves to illustrate the headline about the end of film. It remains to be seen if future issues will continue to avoid imagery on the cover.
