Textfield is a microzine published from Los Angeles by a group of web designers who were used to producing work for the screen and wanted to try working in print, to create something tangible, an object. The result is a black and white publication that references websites and URLs. 'The idea', explains founder Jonathan Maghen, 'was that the user would read the magazine and browse web pages at the same time, reading and browsing'. The cover of the launch issue is blank but for an empty picture box that fills most of the page, and the magazines' name, issue number and price details rendered in 12 point. It looks like an empty template for a website or page layout program. This austerity makes it stand out from most magazines, even from examples such as Edit which use bright colour to attract attention.
