Promising a more cerebral (and arguably very particular) approach to the world of cinema, A Rabbit’s Foot is led by producer, writer, and filmmaker Charles Finch. Issue eleven coincides with the 78th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, transporting its readers to the idyllic French Riviera. Emphasising the glamour that has come to be synonymous with the area, as evidenced by its rich screen history, the cover features a sun-drenched photograph by the provocative fashion photographer Helmut Newton.
Inside, hear from a full cast of screenwriters, filmmakers, actors and artists: Benicio Del Toro is profiled ahead of the premiere of his starring role in Wes Anderson’s new caper film The Phoenician Scheme; Durga Chew-Bose takes us behind the scenes of her contemporary adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s French classic Bonjour Tristesse; and Natasha Fraser reminisces on summers spent cruising Cannes on producer Sam Spiegel’s star-studded yacht.
And the name? Glad you asked. It comes from an Ernest Hemingway book, ‘For luck you carried… a rabbit’s foot in your right pocket… the claws scratched in the lining of your pocket and you knew your luck was still there.’
