‘The Revolution will be Televised’

Inspired by John Coltrane’s jazz song ‘Naima’, which combined African American and Eastern influences to create an entirely new sound, the namesake magazine explores overlapping spaces in culture with the goal of uncovering ‘a new look, a new style of music, a new subculture.’ Released three times a year digitally and culminating in this special annual newsprint issue, the magazine is divided into two sections—the issue’s main theme and ‘Stories of Cultural Interest.’

The second print edition opens with Ahmed Alramly’s editor’s letter, challenging ChatGPT to respond to this issue’s theme, ‘The Revolution will be Televised.’ Inside, you’ll find a mixture of features, photo essays, short stories and interviews, alongside arresting photographs and experimental typography, including an in-depth feature on the haunting cinema of Mati Diop, photography and film artist Diane Severin in conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist, surveillance-themed photography by Thaddé Comar, and a conversation between Alramly and creative director Ben Ditto.
