Founded in 1991, Frieze has grown into a leading magazine for contemporary art and culture, and spawned art fairs in London, New York and Los Angeles. The magazine aims to publish jargon-free writing, international art coverage, criticism and analysis.
In anticipation of his survey show at the Tate Britain next month, American filmmaker and artist Isaac Julien is the cover artist for the April 2023 issue, which loosely revolves around themes of the lost and the found, erasure and survival, within art. Also featured in this issue: four artists from South Korea's 14th Gwangju Biennale, 'dandy, witch, fetishist, saint' Hanne Darboven, Raphaela Vogel, Guadalupe Maravilla and a feature on the origins of Newspaper — the iconic, image-only broadsheet published in New York in the 1960s, just before a certain Interview arrived on the scene...
