Netherlands-based arts and culture publication Simulacrum explores a different theme with every issue. Platforming topics from both historical and contemporary perspectives, their features are written by both established experts and up-and-coming writers (student writers are welcome here).
On the theme, Lies, the team note: ‘A second term for Trump, the proliferation of online misinformation, and a political spin that redues injustice to an “integration problem”—a little sincerity can feel like a luxury these days… for the first issue of volume 33, we invited writers to explore the world through the lens of betrayal, deceit and misrepresentation.’
Simulacrum has been developing rapidly recently, and this time adds a full-colour central section. This time that section is devoted to a counter-intuitive take on digital channels, highlighting how digital archiving is allowing Arab countries to research and recalculate their visual histories.
