The Elsie Magazine Annual #1
240 x 300 mm, 212 pages. Shropshire, UK
A bit like The Museum of Everything on paper, if by “everything” you mean the obsessions, fascinations, collections and predilections of one human. The connoisseur of both the prosaic and extraordinary in question is Les Jones, a designer and photographer who's been publishing his one-man magazine, Elsie, out of his Shropshire village for several years now.
This is the first time he's collated his work into an annual; the result largely on a trip to the US spent meeting people, photographing widely and collecting ephemera and street-signage. The result is an epic production — bumper in the way that the Beano annual used to describe itself as being.
