The latest fold-out map from the Herb Lester team sees Gary Lachman, aka Blondie’s Gary Valentine, chart the New York underground scene in its late seventies/early eighties pomp. 59 addresses are annotated and noted, including the (predominately)Lower East Side clubs, lofts, stores and apartments around which the Blank Generation revolved.
Fear City? The name comes from a Police Union campaign leaflet distributed in the city in the summer of 1975, a scaremongering tactic to protest the mayor’s budget cuts.
