‘A journal for cultural analysis’
The petit, open access and student-run Soapbox brings together essays, research and critical writing in response to ‘the cultural objects, phenomena, and concepts shaping our world and experiences’. Previous issues have explored listening, contamination and interfaces; this fifth edition dives deep into ‘The Swamped’.
Printed entirely in dark green, you'll find nine pieces exploring swamps from both ecological and societal viewpoints—‘how does one live in through a state of swampedness...?’ asks the front cover. While fairly academic and text-heavy, there are a few playful design touches included: a series of hand scribbled insects animate the right edge of the pages when flicked through, while each piece opens with abstract swampy textures that are actually imprints of each contributor's face.
Edition of 200.
