‘A new era for Crafts

Having been published as a bimonthly for almost 50 years by the Crafts Council—the UK’s national charity for craft—Crafts recently relaunched itself in a freshly redesigned format, now as a biannual.

With its sharper new masthead (a contemporary take on a William Morris typeface from 1892) and refreshed editorial spotlight on makers, artists and designers from the UK and around the world, this Spring/Winter 2023 issue focuses on crafting meaningful connections, through process, material and place.

With cover star Aamu Song travelling the world to learn from master artisans, read on inside to learn about a mud mosque in Mali, the metaphysics of making, tartan's contentious history, the etymology of 'spinster' and potters searching for locally sourced wild clay.
