Edited and design by Mathieu Christe
A periodical of applied research in type design from Swiss type foundry La Police, Footnotes is always a revealing dive into the darkest corners of typography history and research. This fourth issue reports on the demise of the Dutch phone book, studies IKARUS, a seventies project to describe typefaces in numerical form, and typographer Joost Grootens reflects on his Ceremony typeface project.
On the Journal:
‘Footnotes is neatly positioned between two poles: at one extreme is the absolute type obsessive for whom much of the content will be familiar but enjoyable, at the other the young designer scratching around for context. It fits this role perfectly – well-researched, enthusiastic and engaging.’
