Notebook is a publication dedicated to cinema art and culture, created as an extension of indie cinema streaming platform, MUBI.
Physically, it’s a beautiful thing: with its matt pages, expressive typography and plenty of colourful stills. The team behind Notebook hope to celebrate, explore, appreciate and analyse the beauty of film. It’s a lovely addition to our film mag selection.
This sixth issue departs from their typically full-bleed photographic covers with an endearing hand-drawn illustration from six-year-old Harriet Yu Yan Xia Parker—a response to a short film shown in Notebook’s new Children's Cinema program. Youth is at the heart of this edition, but not quite in the typical sense: features cover six coming of age scenes, product placement as youth-targeted propaganda, adolescent fixations with gory imagery, Hollywood’s new de-ageing trends, and a TV schedule-like of ‘microcinema’ mapping viewings across TikTok, YouTube Shorts and IG reels.
Plus, stickers!
