The first of a magazine series of ten issues about design in the US state of New Jersey. Each issue will centre around a single event—in this case the 1951 opening of the New Jersey Turnpike. This 117 mile highway system is a key piece of transport infrastructure and the US’s sixth busy toll road.
Dense imagines different ways of seeing the highway, its role in pop culture, the industrial and traffic pollution it brings, and much more, using essays, interviews, visual stories and fictional accounts.
