Interview is a huge magCulture favourite right now, for its design as much as its content. Launched in 1969 by Andy Warhol, the magazine, nicknamed 'The Crystal Ball of Pop', features interviews with celebrities, artists, musicians, and creative thinkers. Its trademark is the celebrity-interviews-celebrity Q&A, matched with brilliant photography, and in embracing this format the current creative team have taken it right back to it roots in an Instagram-friendly manner.

This issue’s cover if the perfect example of that; Lana del Rey stars in a shoot by Nadia Lee Cohen that has been ricocheting around the socials for several weeks now, and Lana’s fans gathering to buy every available copy of the mag. Inside, Lana is interviewed by Billie Eilish.

The issue also features a clean, new typographic approach referencing the mid-1970s era of the magazine.

On the Journal
Art director Kurt Woerpel runs through the previous issue’s typography:
‘This brief insight into the typography of Interview is a reminder how complicated it can be to create something that appears simple. And this is the secret to the magazine’s success: a simple concept fullfilled by a strong team passionate about refining their contributions into a large-format celebrity zine. Let’s call it Magazine of the Year.’
