Recorded live at the magCulture Shop, our latest podcast welcomes James Hyman and Tory Turk of the Hymag magazine archive.
As ever, the episode opens with an overview of recent magazines; host Jeremy Leslie, James and Tory highlight magazines including Interview, Creative Review, Racquet and Post. We then hear all about Hymag: the scale of the archive to date, its purpose, and their need to raise funds to maintain the project. They make their case persuasively – please listen and support the crowdfunding campaign here. Yes, it’s a strange time to be handing over money but please help them, it’s a vital project.
Jeremy then meets Kickstarter’s magazine champion Oriane Leckert. She explains why the platform works so well for magazines – barely a week goes by without another launch being funded via the site — and mentions some recent successful campaigns (including Hamam and Inque). Plus she shares tips on making the most of Kickstarter to luanch a magazine.
The back issue is nineties interiors mag Nest, a creative and editorial gem. Read more about the magazine here, and look out for Phaidon’s beautiful ‘Best of Nest’ book, out now.
