‘A new era for Crafts

Having been published as a bimonthly for almost 50 years by the Crafts Council—the UK’s national charity for craft—Crafts recently relaunched itself as a biannual in a redesigned format.

With its new masthead (a contemporary take on a William Morris typeface from 1892) and refreshed editorial spotlight on makers, artists and designers from the UK and around the world, this is Crafts' 50th anniversary issue for Autumn/Winter 2023, featuring Palestinian architect and artist Dima Srouji on the cover.

Reflecting on the landmark, editor Debika Ray writes: ‘What will the makers of 2073 think when they look back at our magazine today? As we know from dipping into the Crafts archive, each issue can only be a snapshot of its time. We'd like to think, however, that the stories we choose to tell on our pages represent something that will stand the test of time: our collective endeavour to reshape the world around us for the better through creativity.’
