Pleasant Place #2

180 x 240 mm, 40 pages
Amsterdam, Netherlands (English-language)
First published 2022
Editors-in-chief: Guus Kaandorp, Floor Kortman and Lou-Lou van Staaveren
Graphic design: Miquel Hervás Gómez and César Rogers (fanfare)

The second issue of freshly launched Pleasant Places —‘a growing collection of publications about the art of gardening’—is dedicated to Nasturtiums, and follows the launch issue which was all about Enclosures (the walled garden, hedges etc).

Flipping through issue two reveals the many sides to the flowering annuals (matching the issue’s bright orange cover when in bloom), beginning with a handy botanical history.

Also inside: their depictions throughout art history, a strange tradition at the Isabella Gardner Museum, and a handful of recipes, including nasturtium syrup for your cocktails. Plus, in the centre pages, a series of cut-outs, designed by Hugo Ricci,to make your own miniature garden

A curious and pleasant read indeed, and beautifully designed too.
