It's that time again—a new issue of the limited edition zine produced by Singapore’s Lim family (Pann, Claire, and their children Renn and Aira) arrives, gorgeous as ever. Depending on your hemisphere, this issue is their (un)lucky number 13, subtitled ‘An Illogical Triskaidekaphobe's Guide to Touching Wood’ and based on the fascinations and superstitions surrounding the number—spanning histories, cultures and clearly, families too.
As expected, its another stunning celebration of print, physical creation and family charm—each of the zine's five sections is demarcated by a different type of paper-thin wood veneer, masking the contents inside. Find Renn and Aira look back on their 13th birthdays; weekend movie viewings at 13:00; family cat Achille's 13 missing teeth (poor boy!); Claire's 13 bean soup recipe; and 90 pages worth of wooden items found around the Lim household.
Each copy is hand finished and cleverly screw-bound together by a pair of wooden rulers to ensure that the reader, as per the Lim family's instructions, are always touching wood while flipping through.
