‘An ode to contemporary (analogue) photography’
The first issue of Safelight Journal explores 'Youth' as interpreted by 11 different artists. Each offer their own understanding of the term, answering by way of their chosen style of analogue photography.
As well as visuals, which are the main offering here, there's also intermittent editorial—short pieces exploring the issue's theme, poetry, and notes which accompany the photography. An intriguing first issue.
It's worth noting that the journal comes out of the Berlin-based shop of the same name: a candy-pink haven to analog photography created by Alessandro Iotti and Chris Morgan.
On the Journal:
‘November’s Magazine of the Month majors on its own photographic niche, reflecting the contemporary interest in rediscovering otherwise outmoded technology; all the images in the debut issue of Safelight Paper are analogue rather than digital, shot using film.’
