The Funambulist #60

200 x 250 mm, 80 pages
Paris, France (English-language)
Bimonthly
Editor-in-chief: Léopold Lambert
Graphic design: Akakir Studio

A magazine concerning the politics of space and bodies, which along with its podcast and blog, is building an archive for anti-colonial, anti-racist, queer, and feminist struggles. Now published in English, French, and Spanish (we have the English version).

This timely issue of The Funambulist marks 10 years in print for the magazine, while also commemorating 80 years since the US nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, using these as an example of ‘relationships that partially trace a global cartography of US imperialism’.

Inside, connections are drawn between the bombings and Dene mine workers, Belgian uranium extraction in the Congo, anti-nuclear organising in Japan, and Indigenous peoples reeling from the fallout of 67 nuclear bombings conducted in Micronesia, between 1946 and 1962. On the cover, Roger Peet’s map visualises these interconnected geographies and communities.

On the Journal:
At work with Léopold Lambert… ‘Two thirds of our incomes come from subscriptions (annual or monthly, digital only or print and digital), which is really the key point of our ‘business model’ (always a word that sounds odd in the context of an anti-capitalist publication…).’
