Varoom magazine

The Association of Illustrators have just published the first issue of their magazine Varoom. Edited by Adrian Shaugnessy and designed by Non-Format this is a well-written, good-looking title evangelising illustration. The ninety pages feature plenty of work samples and interesting features including John O’Reilly‘s theory of Illustrology, a timely overview of illustration; an interview with UK illustration guru Dan Fern and a profile of US veteran Ed Fella. Naturally the ubiquitous Paul Davis is included. There’s also a glossy reviews section in the middle covering among other things the latest thisisamagazine.com print compilation, Everything Will Be OK.

The design wisely takes a back seat to the rich selection of visuals, but uses what I guess is a custom font for its masthead (see image) and another similar one for the headlines.
