NYRA takes LA! That's right, this special issue sees the New York Review of Architecture temporarily rebrand itself as the Los Angeles Review of Architecture, as the tall, slim broadsheet sets its sights west. Retaining the same format and design— now with a splash of green—you'll find the usual spread of columns, essays, criticism and more, as the team, guided by guest editor Mimi Zeiger, attempts to ‘take the critical, architectural pulse’ of the City of Angels:

‘It could be said that architecture and urbanism here occupy the space between simulacra—the counterpoint to competing fantasies. It's hard to argue with the solidity of a building as hard and fast as a concretized river-bed or freeway overpass. But as LARA editors pieces together this issue, gathering dozens of writers who offered dispatches from across the basin, the Valley, and the desert, we were faced with the fact that this isn't always the case... This isn't the Los Angele that we expected to find as we ventured west, but, as it ever has been, it's one worthy of exploration.’
