Ordering from the EU

Update: Royal Mail deliveries to Germany have been disrupted recently, so we are only offering a Tracked service for that country. This costs more but is more reliable.

From 1 July 2021 we are obliged to add VAT tax to all orders from the 27 EU countries. The tax will be added automatically at checkout, will apply only to the items ordered and not the shipping costs, and be set at the local rate for the delivery address.

This means you can rely on delivery without any surprise additional costs. If you do get charged extra fees please contact us immediately so we can help resolve the situation.

Shop hours

Our London Shop is open 11am—6pm weekdays and 12–5pm Saturdays, and closed Sundays and public holidays.

 


Online orders

Local and international shipping

We pack and post all orders from our London Shop, aiming to dispatch those received before 2pm local time on the same day, Monday through Friday. Orders placed after 2pm will ship the following day (on Friday, later orders will ship on Monday).

We use two shipping services, defined by weight. Orders up to 2kg go by Royal Mail, and over 2kg by DHL. Read on for further details.

For more expensive items we strongly recommend selecting a tracked service: either Royal Mail Tracked or DHL where available.

Our shipping service has settled down since the pandemic started, but there occasional delays. If ordering from within the EU please make sure you read the notes at the start of this page.

 

Click + Collect

You can also pay online and come and collect your magazines—simply select ‘Pick Up’ at Checkout.

Once you receive the email confirmation that your order is ready for collection, come to our Clerkenwell Shop 11am—6pm weekdays or 12—5pm Saturdays. Please bring your order number.

Packaging

Orders are carefully and securely packed in card envelopes or boxes, all of which are reusable/recyclable, and we use paper rather than plastic bubble wrap to protect items. Plastic tape is used to seal packages since that remains the most secure option. 

Larger orders may be split into two or more packages.

 


Payments

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express card payments, and our shop is fully complaint with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

 


Address details

We cannot be responsible for incorrect addressing – please make sure you use the correct name, address, email and phone details. This is particularly important while so many people continue to work from home.

If you realise you’ve made a mistake call us as soon as possible – we ship every day so you need to catch us quick.

Packed magazines are often larger than home letterboxes, so someone will need to be present to receive the shipment. 

 

Gift orders

If your order is a gift for another person, please say so in the Notes field when ordering, and we won’t include an invoice with the shipment. You can also include a personal message here and we’ll write that on a postcard – or you can buy one of our greetings cards and we'll personalise that.

 


Order confirmation

 

You will receive a confirmation email shortly after placing your order. Please check it to make sure everything is correct. If you have any questions or concerns, email or give us a call right away.

We will respond to emails as soon as we can Monday to Friday during shop hours (currently 11am–6pm). There is also a chat service on Shopify, same hours.

 


UK orders

Orders weighing less than 2kg are sent via Royal Mail First Class by default, but we strongly recommend paying the slightly higher rate and selecting ‘Tracked & Signed’ at checkout — we cannot vouch for your package’s safe delivery otherwise.

Orders over 2kg are automatically sent using DHL Express as it is cheaper than Royal Mail for that weight.

DHL is generally a next day service but please note DHL doesn’t deliver on weekends. Orders placed between 2pm on Thursday and 2pm on Friday won’t arrive until Monday. Those placed after 2pm on Friday or over the weekend will be shipped on Monday and arrive Tuesday.

 

London same day delivery

For same day delivery in London, select the Gophr courier service at Checkout. This service is available weekdays 12-5pm only. Visit gophr.com to find out more about their service.

 


International orders

Orders weighing less than 2kg are sent via Royal Mail First Class by default, but we strongly recommend paying the slightly higher rate and selecting ‘Tracked & Signed’ at checkout — we cannot vouch for your package's safe delivery otherwise.

Apart from the US (see below), orders over 2kg are delivered using DHL Express.

Orders placed after 2pm on Fridays and over the weekend will ship on the following Monday.

Please note that certain countries, such as Australia and Brazil, allow for either tracked or signed, but not both. In such cases, we will always choose tracked for ‘Tracked & Signed’ deliveries unless you request otherwise.

For some European countries we’re able to offer the option of choosing DHL Economy Select — this is a road service and will take a few days longer than Express. Post-Brexit there are unpredictable  delays on this services.

 

US orders

All US orders weighing more than 0.76kg will be shipped using DHL as this is cheaper than current US mail rates and more secure. Smaller US orders will use Royal Mail Tracked and Signed.

 


Receipt

All shipments include a tax receipt for your order, unless you specify the order is a gift (use the notes field).

Magazines and books sold from the UK are zero-rated for VAT.

 


Product descriptions

We take all reasonable care to ensure that the descriptions, prices and other details of products listed on the website are correct at the time of publishing.

  


Returns/lost orders

We check all orders before shipping, but if anything is damaged or missing from your order please let us know as soon as possible. 

It is surprisingly rare for shipments to get lost in the postal system. More usually they are delayed, particularly while the pandemic and Brexit continue to disrupt systems. 

We recommend paying for a tracked service to avoid losses.
