Broadcast #2

200 x 272 mm, 108 pages
Brooklyn, US
Editors-on-chief: Janna Levin and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro
Design: Daniel Kebt and Callum Abbott

‘Art/Science/Music/Lit’

Published by Pioneer Works, a Brooklyn non-profit cultural centre that counts David Byrne among its advisors, Broadcast reflects that organisation’s open spirit. You’ll find writing about science (the use of AI to examine early experiments with psychedelic substances), music (Vivien Goldman retraces her musical roots in Jamaica) and a new short story by Isle McElroy and more in this second issue.

A magazine devoted to such a broad range of topics might easily be a confusing mess, but Broadcast is held together by its clear, graphic style. The design team have wisely adopted clear parameters—a tight grid structure and a limited colour palette of black, blue and green—that allow the editors free reign.
