‘A new era for Crafts’

Having been published as a bimonthly for almost 50 years by the Crafts Council—the UK’s national charity for craft—Crafts relaunched itself as a biannual in a redesigned format last year.

Now with a new masthead (a contemporary take on a William Morris typeface from 1892) and refreshed editorial spotlight on makers, artists and designers from the UK and around the world, this is their bright red issue for for Spring/Summer 2024, featuring South African weaver Igshaan Adams on the cover. And inside: thatch makes a comeback, reviews on a recent show at the Barbican and handcrafted video games, and editor Debika Ray delves into the importance of craft within contemporary English society, ahead of a general election with plenty at stake for the arts.
