Butt #36

170 x 240 mm, 122 pages
London, UK & Amsterdam, Netherlands
First published 2001
Editor: Gert Jonkers
Art director: Jop van Bennekom

To recap, a little Butt-shaped history class: ‘In 2001, Gert Jonkers and Jop van Bennekom started Butt, the pocket-size magazine by, for and about homosexuals. Flash forward 35 issues, three calendars and fifteen parties later, Butt is still the place where gays can speak candidly about their ideas, work and sex lives.’

Meanwhile, of course, Gert and Jop have launched Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman and the sadly shuttered The Happy Reader.

This ‘thickest and most holy issue yet’ leads with Spanish-Moroccan actor/model/engineer Sir Karim on a pair of covers, cropped or full-faced. Inside, a varied cast of queens: self-proclaimed ‘basic trans jock‘ Jill Leflour, Namibian evangelist and pro-sodomy campaigner Friedel Dausab, filmmaker Lilly Wachowski (of The Matrix and V for Vendetta fame) and Filippo Sorcienlli, who designs clothes for the Pope. Oh, and throw in some bulging Aussies for good measure.
