A pleasant new food title from chef Tobias Beck and the team behind Fare, Gut Geist pays tribute to Germany's food culture and eateries by ‘taking a look at old classics and delving into the stories behind them’. Generously photographed, with short interviews to boot.
For this inaugural issue, Beck eats his way around adopted home Berlin via six (fairly meaty) traditional spots: from fried chicken at Die Henne (pictured on the cover) and coffee at Rolly's Trucker Stop, to Fischbrötchen at Rogacki and Turkish meatballs at Mercan.
There's also a handy glossary at the end to make sense of your currywurst, imbiss, bratkaroffeln and weinschorle, and a handful of illustrations (plus sausage dog sticker) from renowned NYT illustrator Christoph Niemann.
