Founded by furniture designer and architect, Gio Ponti—with the subtitle ‘Architecture and decor of the modern home in the city and in the country’—Domus is a hefty Italian bible of built and inhabited space.

Guest edited by renowned Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, this is the second issue of 2025, as well as the second in Domus’ ‘materialist odyssey,’ investigating the materials that have shaped the built world throughout human history.

This time the focus is on earth, the amorphous found element that takes many forms, including clay plaster, adobe, ceramic, terra cotta, wet clay and burnt brick. Here, Domus proves once again that the re-examination of even the most rudimentary of materials ‘can be a path to new frontiers of exploration and experimentation’.
