24/25/26 October
A busy week coming up for the magazine-obsessed later this month. If you manage to attend all three of these events you need specialist help to deal with your obsession:
Tuesday 24 October: I'm chairing an event in New York featuring four magazine designers talking about their work and the differences between UK and US magazines. The evening has been programmed by D&AD to encourage a wider entry to the new Magazine and Newspapers category in their annual awards (more of which later). Full line up to be confirmed but so far we have Suzanne Sykes, art director of Grazia, Josh Liberson from Manhatten-based studio Helicopter, and Chris Dixon, art director of New York magazine. This is a free event, venue and details to follow.
Wednesday 25 October: PTC Design Masterclass, London. Another four magazine designers discuss how journalists and designers can work together. Featuring Rob Abbott, Group Art Editor, Future Publishing; Sarah Douglas, Art Editor, Architects Journal; Paul Kurzeja, Creative Director, Redwood; Jonathan Whitelocke, Art Director, Red. Chaired by Redwood editor Diane Kenwood. Tickets £15 + VAT from ella.onyemere@ppa.co.uk
Thursday 26 October: The Magazine Design Awards dinner. Find out first-hand who are this year's winners of the one UK design awards dedicated to magazines (see short list in previous post).
