With a founding date of 1854, BJP is the world’s oldest and longest running photography magazine. But age has not caused it to stagnate—as they say, it's ‘not your usual game of picture karaoke.’

With summer coming to a close and September upon as—a month that, as editor Diane Smyth correctly observes, has a distinctly ‘back-to-school vibe’—this issue focuses on the timely but rarely captured theme of ‘Work’. A wraparound photograph of the 1984-85 Miners' Strike makes for an excellent cover, followed by a standout features section inside: Philippa Kelly interviews four photographers who documented the historic event; Samar Hazboun captures Israel's enforced suspension of everyday life for Palestinians in the West Bank; and three artists share insights on making a living from their work as photographers.
