Each edition of Italian biannual Archivio collects stories about archives, bringing together a rich mix of materials, practitioners and institutions from around the world to reflect on the ever-evolving nature of archival practices—a quality evident in the magazine’s own publishing process, which sees its themes, editorial team and design refreshed every four issues.

This tenth edition is the pastel pink Design issue, guest edited by Marco Sammicheli, curator of design, fashion, and crafts at Triennale Milano and Director of the Museo del Design Italiano. Retaining its slick folio-like format from the previous issue, its split into the archives of institutions, brands and individual designers, with the emphasis on their histories, process and relationships to collecting, rather than individual objects.

Inside: the Design Museum in London, Milan's Salon del Mobile, design companies Kartell and Fornasetti, plus two cult Italian magazines—industrial design annual Ottagono and AliasMAGAZINE from furniture manufacturer Alias—also making an appearance.

On the Journal
At Work With: guest editor Marco Sammichelil: ‘Archives contain valuable materials—drawings, prototypes, and more—that are indispensable for any designer. Even when an object is removed from its original context and placed in a museum, it doesn’t lose its potency.’
