Produced by three friends and CSM graduates as a space to explore their Asian heritage through food, Tomato Egg is a sweet, colourful new title ‘blending the nostalgic comfort of a classic dish with the unique personalities of London's Asian creatives.’
The name is an ode to a food that has ‘long been a staple in Chinese households due to its accessibility, ease of preparation, and familiar flavours—making it a recipe ripe to pass down from generation to generation’, its two ingredients illustrated and hand-embossed on the cover.
Built around three sections—Egg, Tomato and Garnish—this dense first issue spotlights twelve young Asian creatives through artwork and interviews, each touching upon their practices, family, cultural identity, plus their own recipes for tomato egg, which are neatly compiled into a petite, Riso printed recipe index accompanying the issue.
