For Scale #1

350 x 278 mm folded, 40 pages (set of three broadsheets)
USA
First published 2024
Editor: David Michon
Art director: Mike White (Studio Lowrie)

A large-format, printed extension of the weekly design and interiors Substack by David Michon (formerly of Icon and Monocle), For Scale is dedicated to ‘the supreme potential of domestic space’, offering a range of 'original not-online thoughts’ in the form of three broadsheet newspapers.

You’ll find witty, highly opinionated yet thoughtful takes and on aesthetics, function, design and more, covering everything from the appeal of ‘GLAMOUR BUTCH’ and ‘The Atomic Cloud as Décor’, to a warehouse tour with American designer Kelly Wearstler's dog Wille and shelf pseudo-theory, all of which are paired with a lo-fi design and full-page adverts (yes, they are real). This first issue opens with Michon’s ‘Manifesto on Décor’, in which he writes:

‘One should understand the gravity of décor, as a home is a site for an enormous range of experiences (SEX, DINNER PARTIES, ALSO POSSIBLY... BREAK-UPs, YELLING, R.E.M.STATE), but also understand how silly it is to rely on one's home as a foundation for one's identity. This is why décor is, we posit, universally interesting.’
