Toting itself as ‘a bookazine worth considering for those seeking a more intellectual and thoughtful approach to photography and narrative storytelling’, Arkiv Paper is a new XL title by photographer and human rights activist Kenny Karpov. Moody full-bleed photographs are combined with essays, interviews and carefully considered profiles, painting an authentic and full picture of the underground subcultures it seeks to illuminate.
For their sophomore issue Arkiv Paper delves into the multifaceted and often knotty terrain of ‘Sex Work’, continuing to ‘shed light on the often overlooked aspects of human experience’. Inside, you’ll find photography from Alexandra K. Dietz, Fosi Vegue, Maki, Danielle Villasana and Elena Perlino, touching on the diverse lived experience of the global sex worker community, from Dietz’s harrowing portrayal of survivors of sexual assault in South Africa—a poignant reflection on resilience and community in the face of systemic neglect, to Danielle’s luminiscent street lit photographs of life for trans women in Peru’s carceral capital.
