After a hiatus of several years, Mynah returns to print with renewed energy. An important part of Singapore’s publishing scene—alongside the likes of Rubbish FAMzine and Meantime—since 2016, the magazine shares the untold stories of the city-state, offering a critical look at aspects of life on the island that otherwise go unnoticed or unchallenged.
In this issue: a meditation on the Great Singapore Workout and the disciplining of the Singaporean body; a spatial examination of female prayer halls in local mosques; a case for the centrality of ‘typical’ home cooks within the Singapore culinary landscape; and an essay about Singapore’s barbecue culture from the inaugural recipient of the Mynah Emerging Writers Mentorship, professional chef Joseph Ong.
