Footnotes #E

165 x 236 mm, 48 pages
Geneva, Switzerland.
Occasional
Edited and designed by: Mathieu Christe

A periodical of applied research in type design from Swiss type foundry La Police, Footnotes is always a revealing dive into the darkest corners of typography history and research.

This fifth issue reports on the genesis of Karlgeorg Hoefer’s mid-twentieth century grotesk Permanent, types cut for François-Ambroise Didot (1781–5), practical notes on Walter Käch’s educational material (by our friends at Dinamo) and more.

Each copy also comes with a book-shelf-mark (listing the table of contents of the previous issue), a card with visual clues, and a surprise sample.

On the Journal:
Footnotes is neatly positioned between two poles: at one extreme is the absolute type obsessive for whom much of the content will be familiar but enjoyable, at the other the young designer scratching around for context. It fits this role perfectly—well-researched, enthusiastic and engaging.’
