BonBon #6

First published in 2019
Editor and art director: Ebony Louise Barrett (a.k.a BonBon)

One for all the cuties out there—the super stylised BonBon bursts with bows, pastel palettes, fluffy creatures and kawaii fashion, in its aim to bring ‘the fluid and flamboyant Harajuku aesthetic to the West.’ Created by fashion photographer Ebony Louise Barrett, it offers a queer-friendly and body positive dose of illustration, artist spotlights, interviews and fashion shoots (featuring adorable farm animals, on occasion).

This weighty sixth issue is themed ‘The Kawaii Gaze’—described as a way of revisiting one's childhood from a place of kindness and joy—and includes a review of Somerset House’s Cute exhibition; an interview with Hysteric Fashion curator Daisy Davidson; a piece on the aesthetics of Black hyper femininity; and yes, those aforementioned farm animals in a hazy Suburbia-themed shoot.
