BJP is the world’s oldest and longest running photography magazine. But age has not caused it to stagnate—it remains a vital journal of record for the art and craft of photography.

This issue is their annual ‘Ones to Watch’ special, celebrating 15 new photographers from around the world, as selected by a global panel of nominators. This year, the work grapples with war, migration, dual heritage, and the legacies of dominance and imperialism—yet still finds moments of joy in the midst of adversity.

Among this year’s selection are artists from Palestine, Chad, China, and India, including Moayed Abu Ammouna, who redirects photojournalism through a deliberately blurred, emotionally charged lens that favours lived experience in Gaza over the conventions of standard reportage. He invites viewers to ‘become a partner in the imagination, rather than a mere spectator of a well-defined tragedy,’ reflecting his desire to cling to the moment before it fades, both visually and emotionally.

The ‘Ones to Watch’ report takes up most of the issue, but there is space for a few regulars such as festival reports—including Les Recontres d’Arles—and book reviews.
