Spirit(ed) #2

Editor: Emma Westman
Creative director: Craig Johnson
The second issue of the music magazine sees its remit extended to include cover star Tony Kaye, the film director, who is interviewed at length inside.
Published from the Camden home of bar/club and music label Spiritual Records, and put together by the inhouse team plus designer Craig Johnson, Spirit(ed) is a bold attempt to channel the 15 year-old identity of the venue into print.
Interviews with regular performers and a report from last year’s Spiritual Festival sit alongside local celebs—fashion photographer and dandy Jonathan Root—and a look at Jonathan Barnbrook’s sleeve design for David Bowie’s ‘The Next Day’ album. It’s a mixed bag, but it’s held together well by Johnson’s design, and the team’s enthusiasm shines through.
