‘Truth & Movies’
Little White Lies has been at the vanguard of today’s generation of indie magazines since its 2005 launch, and is still as overflowing with love for movies as ever.
This special issue for June/July 2026 is themed ‘The Future of Hollywood’, and—instead of leading with a standalone new film—provides an overview of the state of the industry today, whilst casting its gaze to what lies ahead. On the cover, Nottinghamshire-based illustrator Nick Taylor’s ‘spinning wheel of doom’ provides a choice of twelve fresh ideas for studio executives in need of inspiration. Billie JD Porter opens the issue with an underwhelming stroll down Hollywood Boulevard; her depressing observations on the ‘fever dream of late-capitalism’ stretching out in front of her are brought to life by a handful of nostalgia-tinged polaroids. Elsewhere, features spotlight a trio of ‘Hollywood tragedies’, Aaron Stewart-Ahn gives his expert opinion on timely topics—from AI to Gen Z’s love of Letterboxd; Emma Fraser explores the current TV landscape, delving into the potential fallout from Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery’s mega-merger; and the LWL team interview ‘Jackass’ co-creator Johnny Knoxville and ‘Gremlins’ director Joe Dante.
Plus, all the usual interviews, reviews and listicles, including a conversation with the cult filmmaker fondly christened the ‘Pope of Trash’, John Waters.
On the Journal: To mark the magazine’s 100th issue, we asked editor David Jenkins to select his most memorable front cover designs to date...
